Have been so busy building websites lately that I haven’t had time to write much up. Much of the work lately has been trouble-shooting for other web designers so not many major projects, sure to be some in the New Year though.

Having a bit of fun today making slideshows – so many options now in the Jquery slideshow plugin space. Am liking Colorbox (example) and while it doesn’t seem easy to customize using the Google PDF viewer in an iFrame is damn useful (example).

Drupal, Drupal, Drupal

Been very busy lately working on three separate Drupal sites. After a bit of mind bending I can now confidently announce Drupal is astonishing.

Yes, there are several million modules and settings but once you get rolling the possibilities are truly astonishing. It is a well equipped workshop compared to Joomlas $2 shop tool kit and a powerhouse truck compared to WordPresses svelte sports carelegance.

As the sites launch in the next few weeks I will post them up.

Unpackit Campaign Recieves Over 8700 Votes

The Unpackit 2011 Packaging Awards voting is over and the dust is beginning to settle. Between the website (see here) and the Road Show over 8700 votes were processed and we had excellent feedback on the ease of use of the voting page. Loving that Jquery :-)

New WordPress Theme… From Cardboard

It’s not quite finished it still needs a bit of tidying up around the edges and the site won’t be launched till the end of the month – but a preview can be found here unpackit.org.nz.

This theme was a lot of fun to build, it started by digging into the recycled paper bin at Wastebusters and then taking photos of the different textures. I had access to some great photos from Simon Williams which really make it spark up.

Based on the Twenty Ten them it has all the usual WordPress features, and should evolve nicely as the Wastebusters Media team gets their keyboards into it :-)

New Wanaka Wastebusters Site Launched

I have been working away the last few weeks finalizing a new site for Wanaka Wastebusters. It is built on WordPress and has a custom theme (theme design by Simon, coding by Gwilym) with a number of custom functions to create some intelligent menu highlighting and widgets.

The site is a major step forward from the old one and we’ll be developing it more over the next few months as the crew in the office gets to know WordPress a bit better and the content starts to flow.

The site is also hosted on the superfast Netmechanics server.

In the last few weeks we have relaunched the New South Wales Nurses Union website for Shannons Way. This project had a number of interesting challenges including:

Untangling an old Joomla install
Creating a matching WordPress theme to complement the existing site
Moving the blog content to a current WordPress install

Everything has worked out well and the client is happy. Which makes us happy :-)

Cooreea Server Moved to New Zealand – Now Smoking Fast

Exciting things are happening at Cooreea, a web service we developed two years ago with Stefan Schmidt. Maybe it’s time is just around the corner? As part of the re-vamp we have moved the site from London to a smoking fast Rimu server in Auckland, New Zealand. Local browsing now is … superb….
