I’ve always liked Google more than Facebook as an Internet Overlord, and this is why. Google makes fantastic tools available to anybody, they go to great lengths and effort, and generally the tools are free.

This is an example I created a few weeks ago, using the GoogleMaps API and a Google Spreadsheet as a datasource this page (embedded in a WordPress site) shows a map with markers for all the On The Road participating recycling and transfer stations.

The markers are easily editable by Wastebusters (who run the program) through the standard Google Spreadsheets interface.
